Dear Friends,
As we welcome the fall season, we are proud to share The Pink Agenda’s 2024 Annual Report, which highlights the extraordinary progress we’ve made together. To date, TPA has raised more than $11.5 million in support of breast cancer research and care—and this year, through our partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), we are making our greatest impact yet with a $1.5 million contribution to fund the best and brightest breast cancer researchers in the field.
And now, as we step into Breast Cancer Awareness Month next week, our work takes on even greater urgency. We are thrilled to launch a powerful new campaign in Times Square (Northeast corner of West 43rd and Broadway)—reminding the world that $25 funds 30 minutes of breast cancer research. You have the power to change everything. Join us and fuel the future of life-changing research.
We hope you’ll take a moment to read our Annual Report and see the tangible difference your support is making. Together, we are creating more hope, more breakthroughs, and more moments of joy for all those impacted by breast cancer.
With gratitude and determination,
Nicole Seagriff

Research Updates

Dr. Susan Domchek is exploring how BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations, linked to increased risks of several cancers, affect immune system responses. Her team is investigating how these mutations in tumors lead to DNA damage and influence immune cell activity, with the goal of developing personalized prevention strategies like immunotherapies and vaccines, improving early detection, and refining future screening and treatment approaches.

Dr. Dawn Hershman is working to improve breast cancer care by focusing on treatment adherence, quality of life, and the long-term effects of therapy for patients with advanced and metastatic breast cancer. Her team is studying factors that affect therapy adherence, including financial and social challenges, and is developing risk prediction models to identify patients who may need additional support. They are also investigating ovarian function suppression and strategies to reduce unplanned hospitalizations, with the goal of refining interventions and informing future treatment guidelines.
Dr. Neil Iyengar is developing personalized lifestyle interventions to improve health outcomes and quality of life for people with breast cancer. His team is studying diet, exercise, and metabolic health beginning at the time of diagnosis, aiming to reduce cancer recurrence and support survivorship. The Healthy Living Program provides individualized plans and digital tools to help patients transition from treatment to recovery, improve energy and wellbeing, and adopt sustainable, cancer-protective behaviors.

Dr. Yibin Kang is investigating why immunotherapy has been less effective in breast cancer, particularly metastatic disease. His team is studying how the protein MTDH suppresses the immune system and alters metabolism in distant organs like the liver. By targeting MTDH, they aim to boost cancer-fighting immune cells and develop strategies to enhance immunotherapy, offering new hope for patients with advanced breast cancer.

Dr. Ann Partridge focuses on improving care for young women with breast cancer, who face unique challenges. Her Young Women’s Breast Cancer Study (YWS) continues to uncover distinct genomic features and therapeutic targets, while the Young, Empowered and Strong (YES) Study provides virtual support to these patients. This year, Dr. Partridge is completing the YES studies, expanding access to care for younger women, and analyzing new data to refine personalized therapies and better understand breast cancer biology in this population.
