While a college freshman, Emily and her family had their first experience with breast cancer
when her mother was diagnosed. Shortly after, Emily and her sister decided to get genetic
testing done and discovered that they were BRCA+. They have been diligent with their annual
appointments and screenings, and, in the summer of 2022, Emily’s sister had a preventative
double mastectomy and hysterectomy. Just a few short months later, Emily found a lump and
was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma triple negative breast cancer. Within a week, Emily was
having a port placed and receiving her first round of chemotherapy. That same month, Emily’s
mother found out that her breast cancer returned and metastasized to her bones.
The three of them have been supporting each other through surgeries, treatments, and
recovery. Emily’s wish was to share a special day of pampering with her mother and sister. They
have experienced so much and to have the opportunity to spend that time together and create a
memory would be the ultimate gift. With the help of our friends Kendra Scott, #FABUWISH was
thrilled to arrange for Emily and her family to enjoy a day of pampering at a local spa.
“The times are few that we have that much time to really relax and talk to one another. It
felt like a wonderful way to celebrate all that I’ve been through and also a huge thank you to
them for everything they’d done for me in the past three years. We are a tribe of survivors and
previvor. Not many can say that. I spent two years healing my body. A body that changed in so
many profound ways I still don’t always feel like it’s mine. But with time I’ve come to accept
these changes that were beyond my control. So in accepting the wish and having the
experience was also accepting myself as I am-scars and all.”
