In January 2022, Vanessa noticed a small, hard lump. She thought nothing of it, assuming it would go away. A few weeks later, she contacted her doctor and by March, she found herself sitting in the waiting room for a mammogram. On April 20th, Vanessa was offered her dream job and just eight days later, at the age of 37, she was officially diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative breast cancer.
Vanessa immediately dove into treatment, ready to attack her cancer just as aggressively as it was attacking her body. The months that followed were a whirlwind of appointments, surgeries,and treatments, with Vanessa and her husband driving the five and a half hours to Houston on a weekly basis to her doctors. In June 2023, a little over a year after her diagnosis, Vanessa had her port removed and she and her husband made the move to Georgia where Vanessa was finally able to begin her new job in person.Through it all, Vanessa has kept a positive attitude, changing her mentality to “why not me”.Though she never thought this would happen to her, especially at such a young age, Vanessa remained a beacon of strength.
